How difficult is the Chopta Tungnath trek?
The trek is easy to moderate, so beginners with basic fitness can finish it without earlier trekking experience.
The distance is short and most of the path is paved. The real challenge is altitude and the steep last 1.5 km to Chandrashila. In winter, snow and ice make the path slippery.
Easy parts
- Stone-paved path to Tungnath
- Short daily distance
- Tea stalls on the way
Tougher parts
- Steep climb to Chandrashila
- Thin air and cold wind
- Snow and ice in winter
Walk or jog 20–30 minutes a day for two weeks before the trip. It makes the climb much easier.
